Cute and Easy Hair and Makeup Routines for the Beach

Certain activities make summer special. You know–like hanging out with friends, relaxing with a cool drink and spending a day at the beach. There’s something about the warm sunshine and cool water that just screams summertime! That’s why I try to hit the beach at least a few times each season. If you live near a beach…there’s no excuse. Get out there and enjoy the sun!

ocm-beach-poster1 To make the most of surf and sand, you’ll need to plan ahead. Sure, you’ve got that super cute bikini, your summer shorts and your floppy beach hat ready to go…. but what about the rest? If you’re seeking a little inspiration, look no further. This is my go-to hair and makeup routine for the beach.

Beach-Ready Hair

Spending a day at the beach? The last thing you want is a fussy hairstyle. You should be out having fun–not worrying about your hair! That’s why I stick with braids, braids, and more braids. Whenever I go to the beach, I like to start out with a braided bun. The great thing about this style? It stays in place and doesn’t take long to style. Plus, it looks super cute!

You can create your own braided bun by spritzing hair with a protective conditioning spray and separating the length of your hair into three sections. Braid each section. (You can get more creative with your braiding technique if you’re super skilled!) Twist the braids around one another and create a low bun. Secure with hair elastics or bobby pins.

After spending some time in the water, it’s time to let my hair down! I like to take out the bun, undo the braided sections, and let the sun do its thing. The sunshine can dry damp hair and transform it into sexy, beachy waves. They’ll last for the rest of the day and well into the evening. No need for salt spray; the beach will give your hair enough texture and body for the rest of the day!

Barely-there Beachy Makeup

Know your favorite beauty products? Re-think them before you head to the beach. The simpler, the better. My makeup routine includes a light moisturizer and a BB cream with SPF of 15 or 30. Those products give your skin protection from the sun, even out your skin tone and keep you looking fresh and natural.beach-makeup

Next up is powder. I like to dust a translucent powder all over my face. This will prevent the skin from looking oily. A tip? Toss some pressed powder into your beach bag before you go. That way, you can touch up if you’re heading out after your long day in the sun.

Now it’s time to take care of the eyebrows. Since my beach makeup is usually pretty natural, it’s super important to have defined brows. They add shape to the face and give you a polished, put together appearance. To get the look, brush through your eyebrows with a tinted brow gel and finish by setting them with a matte eyeshadow. It should be one or two shades lighter than your natural brow color.

You’ll want to keep your eye makeup simple but chic. A shimmery cream shadow–I really like Maybelline Color Tattoo–in a champagne shade looks great. It will give your eyes an extra pop without totally melting in the sun or water. Add on a couple coats of your favorite waterproof mascara and your eyes will be totally beach ready. My other beach makeup musts? A cream blush in a neutral or bronzy shade and a tinted lip balm with an SPF. Sun protection never looked so good!

I can’t wait to hit the beach. The beautiful weather, unforgettable sights, and a relaxing afternoon with friends… it’s the perfect way to make summer special. Now you can create special memories of your own, with gorgeous hair and makeup. Score!
