If one of your favorite colors is this pastel shade of green, you’re certainly not alone! Many people are drawn to its relaxing and soothing vibes, and it can easily be included in any type of dorm decor-- classic, bohemian, preppy, or modern--mint green just feels at home in all kinds of room styles. This color does well on its own, or as a peaceful accent color--and you can even pair with another darker color to make your room feel beautifully tied together. If you’re interested in including a little--or a lot--of mint green in your dorm decor this year, we’ve come up with six ways you can easily do this!

Use Mint Green as Your Main Color

Mint green will turn your dorm from drab to fab in no time!

Mint green is the ideal color to turn your four walls of white and modular furniture into the perfect place to study--as well as relax and unwind. You just can’t help but feel a little more cheerful when you see this light hue of green, especially in a dorm room--it always seems to bring a welcome burst of freshness. A great way to incorporate this color is by making it your “main” color for your area of the dorm. If you happen to live in a suite with your own room, all the better as there are even more ways to get some minty freshness into your room. Start first with the bedding, and find a simple mint green comforter and shams. You can choose to stay in the green mode and get a darker color of green for the sheets--say something in a forest green or even a sea green. These darker colors underneath your light comforter will really give your room an extra dose of fab!

After the sheets and comforter, add some minty green curtains, preferably in a sheer if you can. The sheerness really brings out the softness of the green and is a great way to bring lots of warm light into your room and keep it looking cozy. Since you’ll want to block out the sunlight when you’re catching up on sleep, you can either leave the curtains provided by your school, or add a heavier cloth curtain on top of the sheers.

Incorporate Touches of Mint Green into Your Dorm Decor

Try include a couple of accessories in lovely shades of pastel green

Another great way to get a lot of use out of mint green is to add some touches of it here and there with your dorm room accessories. Incorporate a mint green waste basket to coordinate with your desktop organizer or even your chair. Add a lovely accent pillow to make your study chair all the more comfy. Speaking of pillows, this is one of the easiest ways to add a pop of mint green to your decor. Instead of making everything green, you can choose to add pillows in all shapes and sizes to your neutral or white bed set. If you’re using mint green to go for a forest or an ocean theme in your room, this is a great way to include pictures of plants or seashells into your decor.

Mint green rugs and blankets are another fantastic option to bring a little something eye-catching into your room as well. Use an interesting pattern or a favorite cozy fabric to really draw the eye in. Mint green is an extremely versatile color, so even if you’re just looking to add a couple of touches of the color, you won’t have to worry about overdoing it.

Add a Mint Green Accent Wall or Wall Tapestry

Create a stylish dorm room with a pop of color

Although you aren’t able to paint your dorm room walls, that doesn’t mean you can enjoy all the fun of an accent wall! Save the painting for when you get your own apartment (and only if your lease permits it!) and decide instead to see what beautiful mint green removable wallpaper options you can find. This is the perfect time to decide whether or not you’d like your room to follow a theme. These are four popular themes for mint green decor:

  • Forest or garden. If you’re craving a room that can act as a comfortable oasis, then pick up some removable wallpaper that has a leaf or a plant pattern, perfect to transport you to your favorite outdoor spot. You can even carry your green dorm theme over into your bathroom with a tropical forest shower curtain.
  • The ocean and beach. Dreaming of the beach? Use your love of mint green to go with an ocean theme for your wall. Pick up a solid mint green wallpaper and then use pillows, wall art, and bedding that remind you of the ocean to complete the beachy feel.
  • Retro vibes. Mint green was very popular during the 1950s and 1960s, so if this is your style, adding a mint green wall would feel right at home. You can complement the look with shaggy carpets or blankets, and warm accessories in a brass or dark wood color.
  • Rustic. Shabby chic decor loves mint green, it goes perfect with the soft lines and distressed look of this style. Add a little touch of the country to your dorm with a soft wall of green, lacey pillows, and Mason jars to hold lights or accessories.

You can also utilize a wall tapestry if you’re not interested in removable wallpaper. As we mentioned earlier, mint green gives of great boho vibes, so find a tapestry that suits your style. These can range anywhere from mandalas, soft tie-dyes, a garden print, to even just a beautiful green shawl you’d like to hang up. Regardless of which one you choose, it’s going to really liven up your dorm room decor!

Mix Mint Green with Another Color

Mint green plays well with many other colors

Mint green looks beautiful on its own, but when you pair it up with another color, it looks simply stunning! This pastel is one of the best colors to really lighten up a space, which is why it proves to be so popular in bedrooms and dorm rooms alike. When you pair mint green with a deep brown, black, or even gray, it really brings out a special kind of pop to your room. You can choose to do with this your comforter and sheets set, pillows, curtains, and even desk accessories. Don’t be afraid to include patterns as well! Stripes, polka dots, and paisley prints all look great when they’re paired with a solid mint green color.

Mint green can work well with whites and creams too, just make sure to have some accent pieces that will tie your whole look together. If you choose to do white and mint, then brass, gold, or dark brown accent pillows or wall art will look right at home in your room. There are all kinds of ways to mix this color, so let your imagination go with this one!

Decorate with Plants and Pots

Incorporate mint green naturally

A super simple way to get mint green into your dorm decor is to go straight to Mother Nature, and include some beautiful green plants! Not only will the plants clean your air, they’ll look great doing it. Choose a variety that takes little care, just in case you get a little overwhelmed with school, friends, or work. Succulents fall into this category and come in seemingly endless patterns and shapes. Many of these plants are light green and would look amazing on your windowsill or hanging near a window. But really any easy to care for plant is a good idea for your dorm room. Just make sure to put them in a sunny spot--either your desk, the floor, the window sill or hang them (if they’re not too heavy) from command hooks directly from the ceiling or in a nice pattern along your wall.

If you really want to get a little extra, consider planting them in mint green containers. They’re readily available to order online and will add a wonderful pop of color to your room-- and go perfectly with your mint green theme. Get them in a variety of sizes and see what kind of combinations you can make!

Lighting and Mint Green Curtains

Lighting makes all the difference in a dorm room

Just because your room only comes with overhead fluorescent lights doesn’t mean that’s all you can have! Thankfully there are all kinds of additional lighting options that are approved for dorm use. One of our favorites are string lights, which can easily be strewn in many places in your room. Another great option are waterfall lights, which add a nice cozy backdrop to the head of your bed and underneath a mint green tapestry-- or dangled about your windows underneath some sheer mint green curtains. And if you can find some lights in a light green color, even better! Just think how nice they’d look around your plant collection.

If you’d rather have a desk lamp, there are ways to include mint green as well. If you already  have a lamp you love, consider just changing out the lamp shade for something in a soft green. There are also different types of stained glass lamps in a variety of different greens that would look right at home in your room as well.
