Sitting in a hot, stuffy room, or even walking to class with the hot sun beating down on you can feel like a challenge and make focusing on your classes difficult. It is proven that heat can affect your ability to study and make it challenging when you’re trying to study for exams or work on projects for your summer classes.

We know that as a college student, money can be tight, but it is more important to stay cool during the brutal summer months. While your apartment, house, or dorm maybe lacking central air conditioning, you can opt for buying cheap fans to strategically place throughout your place to keep cool. It may not be as luxurious as having air conditioning, but it is a cheap, and easy way to stay cool.

Being hot and sweaty during summer is not fun and it definitely makes you lose focus of what you’re trying to do. Buying a simple dorm room fan can help solve this issue and help you stay studious and productive during the summer session classes. Stay Hydrated and Drink Lots of Water

Not only is it healthy to stay hydrated, but water is your best friend during the hot summer months!

Water is essential to surviving everyday life, and water is even more crucial during the summer. Water is your best friend during the summer months because it will not only help to cool you down, but it also has many other benefits. It helps to avoid dehydration from excessive sweating during the summer and it also gives you energy throughout the day. It is proven if you don’t have enough water in your body, it can make you feel more tired towards the end of the day, so it is recommended to start drinking water as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Staying hydrated during the summer months is essential. Buying a water bottle is a simple way to stay hydrated on campus.

During the summer months, it is recommended to have at least seven to eight glasses of water throughout the day, unless you are working out, or participating in an activity where you are excessively sweating, then it is recommended to drink around eight to ten glasses. It is also recommended that when venturing outside of your place that you carry a water bottle around with you to ensure that you are drinking enough water every day. It also gives you an excuse to buy a water bottle too that are different colors, sizes, and shapes!

Take Cold Showers to Stay Cool

It not only maintains your body temperature, but it also improves blood circulation and invigorates your skin.

Cold showers are invigorating, especially during the summer when you may not have central air conditioning, or if your air conditioning is broken. While going back to the basics, it is one of the easiest ways to stay cool, along with having many health benefits. The benefits of taking cold showers include promoting fat loss, improving immunity, giving better blood circulation, lowers stress and chances of depression, and many more! 

Cold showers are great for the summer with the many other benefits that come with it. No matter what time of day you take a shower, whether it’s morning, or night, consider taking a cold one, especially if you are struggling to stay cool. Enjoy the invigorating feeling of the coldness hitting your skin and improving your overall health, while keeping cool during the summer, making it a good study break as well!

Keep Your Curtains Open in Your Dorm

It helps save energy and keep your place cool!

Keeping the curtains drawn and open at your place is a great way to beat the summer heat. Even if you have an air conditioner to cool your place down, keeping the curtains drawn can help save energy and keep the heat from building up in your place. Having your curtains shut can actually increase the internal temperature of your house and make your air conditioner work harder, raising your electric bill. It is also fun because of the many options that you have with picking out curtains with different colors and patterns.

If you wish, you can purchase blackout curtains that will refrain from any heat getting in your place. Blackout curtains are great for blocking out not only heat, but sun as well to ensure that your place stays cool all hours of the day throughout the entire summer season. So, if you have an air conditioning unit, make sure to turn it down a couple notches and open your curtains, or purchase some blackout curtains to stay cool this summer!

Exercise Indoors During the Summer Session

Exercising indoors will help prevent your risk of dehydration while working out outside.

Exercising is a great way to help with the stress and anxiety that summer session classes may bring. Trying to workout outside can be dangerous because of the heat and the risk of dehydration , heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke from the hot summer weather. It can be draining on your body and can be risky overall. If you prefer to workout outside, it is recommended to take advantage of the early morning or late evening weather during the summer. At these two times during the day, it is cool enough to not worry about becoming overheated and being at risk for heat exhaustion, or dehydration.

To ensure that you will avoid your risk of dehydration from sweating too much outside, you can workout inside. Whether it’s working out at your local gym, or even working out at your school’s recreation center. These are some simple ways to beat the heat during the hot summer months, while still trying to get your daily workout in. In doing this, you can workout in an air conditioned building, avoid dehydration, and help to lower the amount that your sweat to ensure your safety with how hot the summer can be. 

Wear Light Colored and Loose Clothing Outside

It will help to keep you cool during all hours of the day in the hot summer heat.

Wearing loose light colored clothing in the summer is essential when trying to survive the heat of the summer. It is proven that light colored reflects light while dark colored clothing absorbs the sun and the heat, making it almost unbearable to wear during the summer. It is also recommended to wear cotton clothing because of its ability to absorb sweat, making it a more breathable material. 

Wearing black during the summer, although it isn’t bad to do all the time, can be a bad idea especially if you are outside for an extended period of time. Dark clothing absorbs the heat of the sun and actually turns into heat making your body temperature increase, which could lead to being dehydrated if you aren’t careful, or hydrating yourself. To stay cool on your walk to class, opt to wear light, loose, and cotton clothing to stay cool all summer long.

Avoid Drinking Caffeine Outdoors for an Extended Period of Time

This will prevent dehydration along with avoiding other health risks.

Drinking caffeine during the summer when you are dehydrated to rehydrate can actually worsen your condition. It can also affect the health of your kidneys and increase kidney injuries as well. Even drinking coffee or tea to quench your thirst during the hot summer days can be bad for your health and cause you to be more dehydrated than you were before.

To avoid this, you are always able to drink soda, coffee, or tea during the summer, it is just recommended not to drink it while you are dehydrated hoping to rehydrate. Instead, it is recommended that you balance out your caffeine intake with drinking water, water infused with fresh fruit, or even seltzer water. Overall, water is your best friend during the summer months and it should be your top choice when it comes to rehydration!
