There are a lot of ways you can do so, from traditional, to customized, but all frames all do one thing--display your achievement for everyone to see!

We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite ways to display your diploma, but regardless of which one you choose, it’s sure to look great on your wall, your office, or wherever you decide to have it!

Decide How You Want to Display Your Diploma

Do you want to hang it or place it on a shelf?

Even though you probably want to jump right into the good part--which is perusing sites for the perfect diploma frame to enclose your degree--you first want to think about why you want to display your degree and where you’d like to put it! Most people want to frame their degree because it shows that they’ve accomplished something, and that they have the credentials to back up what they put on their resume. Plus, it’s a big achievement and you deserve to put something on display that’s taken you years of work to accomplish.

Now, consider where you want to display your diploma once it’s framed. This will impact the type of frame that you get. If you’re thinking that you’d like to display your achievement in a future workplace, then sticking with a traditional frame that is simple in design is probably your best option. If you’d prefer to keep your diploma in your home office--or even somewhere else at home--then you might want to get a little more creative. After all, not only are you displaying an accomplishment, you’re also creating a way to store your memories of your time at school as well. If you’d like to include a favorite picture with your diploma to make it an even more special addition to your home, this can influence the type of diploma frame you should be shopping for.

If you prefer to hang your diploma, you’ll want to make sure you have enough wall space so that it doesn’t feel crowded out by other frames nearby. Diploma frames can be larger than other pictures you might already have on your wall, especially if it includes room for pictures, tassels, or graduation caps. Decide whether you want to have it as the only item on your wall, or incorporate other memorable pictures or items around it to complete the look.

If you would rather display your diploma on a table or shelf, ensure that you’ll have a suitable stand to do so. Framed diplomas can carry some weight to them, so instead of a stand, perhaps leaning it against something sturdy is a better option. The nice part about displaying your diploma on a shelf is that you can also place other items around it that you could not display on a wall. Include a glass with your school name, a favorite hat, or even other trophies or awards you accrued while you were in school.

Traditional Always Looks Good

You just can’t go wrong with classic style!

So now that you’ve considered why you want to put your diploma on display, as well as where you’d like to place it, now it’s time to see what’s out there! One of the most popular ways to preserve a diploma is to display the full degree and include the school colors and name. That way, not only do you get to have your diploma nicely framed, but you get the added bonus of the school’s name and colors that add to the sense of school pride and emphasize the importance of your accomplishment. The wood frame is a nice touch, and it adds a touch of elegance to the overall presentation of your diploma. This would be a welcome addition on the wall of your current--or future--office.

Having the school name visible is also a nice touch especially if you plan to go on to graduate school, medical, or law school, as it can help differentiate between your two degrees and where you received them.

Another way to keep it classic but change it up a little is to opt for a vertical frame that includes both your diploma as well as a professional picture of your campus. This is a striking way to call attention to your frame when it’s hung on your wall--you can easily see the school name on the diploma as well as a beautiful picture of a well-known building or structure that is sure to bring back fond memories.

Try Adding a Customized Look

Add a little something extra to your new diploma frame

Maybe traditional just isn’t your style, that’s perfectly okay! If you’d like to try something new and different, consider going for your own customized look. If you’re the creative type, you can try to build your idea for a frame from scratch--including all the mementos and keepsakes that you want, in addition to your actual diploma. There are many sites that offer customized framing such as Etsy, Michael’s, or Shutterfly, so see if there’s any patterns that strike your fancy. If there’s not, make one that does!

A diploma frame can be so much more than just a way to display a piece of paper, it can take on a very sentimental purpose and really house some special memories of your time at school. In addition to framing a diploma, you could add your tassel, graduation cap, and even a picture of you and your family from the big day. If you prefer, include a couple of pictures of friends as well for an easy way to remember all the fun you had with them at your university. Adding a personal touch also makes these types of wall hangings a great conversation piece. You can tell anyone that comes over about some of your fondest memories and why framing keepsakes, photos, and your diploma was definitely the right decision for you.

It’s All in the Details

Add a little extra to your diploma frame to make it stand out

Another great way to make your diploma stand out from the crowd to include a little more focus on the details. If you’re creating a custom frame, many times you’re allowed to choose the colors of your school as the background or highlighting color. You can also choose what type of frame you want to tie the whole piece together. Consider adding some elegance with an ornate paisley or Celtic knot pattern. You can show off your sense of style this way, and have an awesome framed diploma for the wall or shelf!

Rustic brown wood or a deep mahogany color are some other choices for those who want to make their frame a little more personalized. Many of these ideas can be incorporated to a traditional frame or a customized frame with keepsakes, so the sky's the limit.

One unique way to preserve your diploma is to have laser engraved onto a wood plaque! Not only will you mark your achievements for display on your wall, but you can guarantee that not many people will have seen one of these. All it takes is for an engraver to have a high resolution scan of your diploma, or a high resolution picture that’s taken in good lighting. Then you just choose the wood you prefer, and that’s it. Your “diploma” is ready to be hung up or added to a desktop display in your office.

If you’d like something clean and modern, consider a floating glass display for your diploma. This interesting frame will allow you to easily hang or display your diploma and won’t take away from your decor. While this type of frame could easily feel at home with any ambiance, it looks especially eye-catching when included in a modern or minimalist office. You can choose to hang it or place it on a shelf for display with other items from your time at school such as photos or a tassel.

Include a Little Depth to Your Frame

Make your display stand out

Frames are typically meant to frame flat works of art or important accomplishments such as diplomas or certificates. You can, however, add a little extra to your diploma frame when you choose to include a shadowbox frame instead. Not only do these boxes look great either on your wall or on a shelf, but they easily showcase your diploma as well as any other memento you want to include. Depending on the size you choose, there might be an area for your paper diploma as well as plenty of space to pin objects such as tassels, photos, or a meaningful object such as a school varsity sports letter or other important keepsake.

There are all kinds of diploma frames to choose from, and it is most definitely not one size fits all. So think about where you’d like your diploma to be and then choose one according to your own personal style! What type of diploma frame did you get? Let us know in the comments!
