“Mean Girls” Quotes That Apply to Our Lives

The movie Mean Girls may have come out over 12 years ago, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love it just as much as when it first came out! There are so many awesome characters we love to hate — and how could you not long to join up with the Plastics? If you’re still wearing pink on Wednesdays or looking for a table to sit with, you will want to add these 7 Mean Girls quotes to your life.

  1. “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was”

"It's October 3rd."

We all know that feeling. That cute person in our math class can ask us just about anything, and we’d think it was awesome … including the completely obvious stuff.

  1. “Because I’m a pusher.”

"Because I'm a pusher."

Are you that friend that loves to play mom or think you know what’s best for everyone else? We’ve got the perfect label for you: the pusher. Just be careful how you use that term…

  1. “That’s so fetch!”

"That is so fetch!"

We’re still trying to figure out what makes things “fetch,” but we reserve it for only the most amazing things in our lives.

  1. “Stop trying to make fetch happen!”

Regina George hates fetch

Okay, maybe we should stop using the word “fetch.” We should probably also stop trying to make leopard-print flip-flops come back while we’re at it. Regina George clearly knows best.

  1. “Get in loser! We’re going shopping.”

What else do you tell your friends before you head out to the mall or grocery store? No one gets in our car without hearing us (lovingly) say it.

  1. “Is butter a carb?”

"Is butter a carb?"

Dieting is hard. Dieting with cafeteria food is even harder. We don’t blame Regina for being a little unsure of this one.

  1. “You go Glenn Coco!”

"4 for you, Glen Coco!"

Glenn Coco is the ultimate man of the movie — the surprise breakout star. We say “You go Glen Coco” whenever we have to celebrate our real-life friends…and that’s Glenn with 2 N’s!

If you’re looking for more grool Mean Girls GIFs, you’ve come to the right place! We won’t shun you like a Plastic not wearing pink on Wednesday, and you can use these for messages and more!

What’s a “Maymester?”

You made it — you’re in the home stretch! There’s just a few more weeks to go, so chances are you’re ready to hit summer break hard. But before you start packing, start thinking about how you want to spend your final month of college. For many universities, this means offering something called “Maymester,” an intensive pre-summer session offered to current students right before break begins. Taking on a Maymester may mean huge things for you, even if you have to delay your beach vacay for an extra week or two.

Maymesters are different at every school that offers them, including what courses are offered, when the sessions start and end, and how credits are assessed. But the jist is that Maymesters offer students the chance to take on courses that may not fit with their regular academic schedule.

That being said, a Maymester isn’t for the faint at heart or those who slack off to the last minute. Because one course is crammed into the space of just one, two, or maybe three weeks, there isn’t much time to procrastinate. This also means you’ll most likely be on your own for this time; this leads to less time to study for exams, write papers, or get a study group going.

However, some Maymesters are the complete opposite. Many schools offer Maymesters as a chance for students to branch out and explore what other classes are out there besides what’s required of them. You could be spending your May learning how to cook French food, play guitar, or throw on the pottery wheel! This semester is all about fun, immersion, and taking a break from the grind.

Why You Should Take a Maymester

There are so many reasons why you should, but the best and most important reason is that it may save you money on tuition! Many Maymesters are great at getting you into classes that you may not be able to fit into your schedule, such as a writing course or a lecture on American history required to graduate. Instead of extending your time at school to another semester, you can get these classes done and over with in just a few short weeks.

Maymesters can also be a great GPA booster if the courses are applied as credits. Most schools have Maymester classes apply equally to GPAs, which is perfect if you’re looking to get yourself back to the Dean’s List or make up for a less-than-great Spring semester.

Many Maymesters also offer short term study abroad opportunities. Instead of giving up a semester or year to study in another country, you could get the same kind of experience in a shorter time (and for a lower price). This is perfect for those just about to graduate or juniors taking an internship their senior year.

Finally, many Maymesters are great at giving you classes that are a little out of the box. For example, you may take a film class that studies the psychology of your favorite science fiction movie or a library course that tours the famous libraries in your city. These classes push the boundaries of learning in a way that is immersive and fun all at the same time.

If your school offers a Maymester, take advantage of what they have to offer! While it most likely will be taxing, a short mini-semester can benefit your GPA and help you expand your horizons.

Build Your Own Planner (with free printables)

You need a planner! No, seriously, hear us out. You probably think that planners are just for busy professionals or middle schoolers required to write down their homework. But we’ve got news for you: planners are for everyone! Weekly planners can help you organize your life while giving you a way to focus on what matters. They are one of the top items we suggest all college students have around. Not convinced? Here’s why you need a weekly planner and planner printables in your life.

Build Your Own Planner Title Card

Internships, meetings with TAs, class schedule changes, recital practice, social events…college life can get hectic!. And often times, we just don’t get the chance to put it in our phone.

Why leave all that important stuff to chance? Plan it all out in the most effective way possible with a weekly planner! By using a planner that is colorful, stylish, and full of great features (such as monthly calendars, notes, and/or pockets), you can take control of your life. And even better, you can actually become more productive.

Monday DIY Planner Page

Here’s a sneak peek of our free planner printables – Click the link at the end of the post to grab a free week’s worth!

Ready to start? The first step is to find a planner that you are comfortable carrying around. If you use a purse or a backpack, be sure to pick one that can be easily transported. Too large and you’ll probably want to leave it at home. Too small and you’ll be squinting to see your handwriting.

Then, start jotting. You can use your planner like you would a homework tracker or a scheduler. But you can also use a planner to write out a weekend to-do list or a goal sheet that lists what you want/need to accomplish throughout the week.

Your planner should be personalized to fit your needs, and that’s why we love planner printables. Bold and vibrant is our style – as it helps us highlight the important things (without having to carry around a highlighter or colored pens). We also love awesome shapes — such as hearts for date nights, flags for the important stuff, stars for evening meetings, and speech bubbles for notes to ourselves.

Using a planner can change your life for good! The more you use it, the more you’ll see just how essential having one is for your busy life. Check out our free planner printables and get on your way to organizing your days!

10 Thoughts On a Snow Day in April

Processed with VSCO with 10 preset

Somehow, on this spring morning, after a week of beach-worthy weather, I gaze out my window at relentless snowfall. As I contemplate retreating back to bed in revolt until the sun comes back out again, several thoughts race through my mind…

1.) “NO. Absolutely not. Nope.”

2.) “I thought spring was officially here to stay…”

3.) “…and now there’s slushy, slippery filth all over the place.”

4.) “Why did I decide to go to school in Vermont?!”

5.) “Usually Vermont is so nice…”

6.) “Ok, fine, I love Vermont.”

7.) “But NOT TODAY.”

8.) “It’s Spring Weekend this weekend!!! It’d better be nice…come on snow…”

9.) “I guess we just have to hope for the best.”

10.) “Happy Spring, I guess…”

How are you spending your snow day?

Dorm Poster Picks for Incoming Freshmen

Let’s face it — your future dorm room isn’t going to be that dream paradise the day you move in. The truth is that most dorm rooms don’t come decked out like those cool design sites. Usually designed with function over appearance in mind, you’re going to have your work cut out for you in terms of designing a bedroom and workspace that fits your personality and style. Luckily, OCM offers plenty of options for posters and wall décor that will work well with just about any theme or dorm room. It’s hard to pick, but here’s our top 3 dorm poster ideas for freshman.

  1. World Map Scratch Map Poster

You’re a traveler at heart, and you plan on spending the next four years taking advantage of what your campus has to offer through international study abroads and maybe even going on solo trips to explore the world around you. That’s awesome! Plus, you may be too much of a wanderer to be confined to a dorm room, but you can always show off your adventurous spirit with a poster perfect for the backpacker or jet-setter.

The World Map Scratch Map poster is more than just a map — it’s interactive! Once you cross a destination off your to-see list, head over to your map and use a coin to literally cross off your conquest. The more places you visit, the faster you’ll see your map transform from a singular color to a full-color map. It’s not just motivating; it’s a piece of art you can truly say you created!

  1. Superhero Distressed Retro Vintage Tin Signs

If loving superheroes is wrong, then we don’t want to be right! With all these awesome superhero reboots in the works, it’s hard not to be nostalgic for our favorite comic book stars and movie legends. That’s why when we saw the Distressed Retro Vintage Tin Signs for Thor and Green Lantern, we knew we had to have them!

There’s a few reasons why we love this style in particular. First of all, superheroes look great on anybody’s dorm wall. The bright and bold colors make it great to accessorize with, and with so many awesome superhero themed DIY’s out there, you can’t go wrong. And finally, the distressed vintage look is still winning us over by being a trend that transcends the years. Putting it in tin gives it an extra flair.

  1. Motivational Posters

We’re so over those cheesy posters you probably saw a ton while you were in high school. You know the ones — they say something short and to the point like “Get the Job Done” and feature a picture of a pretty blue sky. Pass. If we’re going to have a poster motivate us, we want one that actually talks about our life like it is.

That’s why we want a poster like the Live Your Life version. Not only is it really well designed with super modern typography, it also speaks to us. It reminds us that life isn’t just one motivational quote — it’s a whole lot more than that! It’s remembering to smile or enjoy the little things to appreciate the bigger ones. This poster also complements another favorite, the Be Awesome poster, which together can add a pop of color to the walls while still inspiring. With these posters, we’re ready to conquer the world!

The Super-Easy, Dorm-Friendly Springtime Lemon Cheesecake Recipe

One of our favorite trends for this Spring is all things yellow, especially a bright and vibrant lemon yellow! Lemon is often thought to be a summertime food (think lemonade), but lemons are actually in their peak in March and April when they are at the end of their harvest season. That’s the perfect excuse to get a jump start on the season by practicing your cooking skills with a lemon flavored dessert. Don’t have an oven or limited access to a stove? Don’t worry – you can make one of our favorite lemon recipes without having to go home! In fact, your friends, family, and even professors will be seeking you out for a taste of your super decadent, totally cheat-worthy lemon cheesecake!

Before you begin, you will need to be sure that your dorm kitchen has a few essential supplies. First and foremost, you’ll need three medium to large sized mixing bowls and one or two sturdy mixing spoons (or a hand mixer). If you plan on making the crust yourself, you will also need a pie tin.

This recipe also requires boiling water. If your dorm doesn’t have a stove, you can make boiling water with a coffee maker, microwave, or even a rice cooker! You’ll also need access to a refrigerator with enough room for a full sized pie. There are two ways you can make this cheesecake — the “easy” way or the “impressive” way. The “impressive” way has you making your own graham cracker crust. However, you’ll need an oven for that. If you want to save time or can’t get to an oven, you can also replace the homemade crust with a pre-baked store made one. You can find these in a baking section for pretty cheap.

We’ve included both options if you decide you want to go adventurous and make your own.

The Springtime Lemon Cheesecake Recipe

Ingredients for a homemade crust:

  • 2 cups of graham cracker crushed

  • ½ cup white sugar or sugar replacement

  • 1 stick of butter, softened

Directions for homemade crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until a cracker paste is formed.

  3. Press the cracker paste into a greased pie pan.

  4. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or until the crust is brown.

Ingredients for lemon cheesecake:

  • Pre-made or store bought graham cracker crust

  • 1 package of lemon gelatin or Jell-O mix

  • 8 ounce of cream cheese, softened in microwave for 20-30 seconds

  • 1 cup white sugar or sugar replacement

  • 1½ tsp. vanilla extract

  • 5 oz. evaporated milk

Directions for lemon cheesecake:

  1. Prepare lemon gelatin according to package (typically boiling about 1 cup of water and mixing the lemon gelatin in). After mixed, set aside and cool for about 10 minutes. It will appear thicker.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until well mixed.

  3. In third bowl, use a fork or whip to stir evaporated milk until it begins to look fluffy and thick. Add in lemon gelatin and stir until well-blended, and then add cream cheese mix.

  4. Pour onto crust and spread softly using a butter knife or spoon.

  5. Place pie in refrigerator and let cool for about 4-5 hours before serving. Add whip cream, powdered sugar, or sliced lemon or lime as an optional topping.

The Perks of May Graduation

Can you feel it in the air? Spring is finally here! The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and your classes are finally wrapping up. And if you’re a senior, you probably have only one thing on your mind: GRADUATION! Having a commencement celebration this time of year is the best. Graduating in May is, hands down, one of the best times to put on your cap and gown. With so many opportunities to celebrate with friends and family as well as work on your future, you’ll be spending your summer on a graduation high.

  1. The Weather

No list about May graduation could be complete without first mentioning the best perk of graduating at the end of Spring — the warm, beautiful weather! For most campuses, this means outdoor celebrations and ceremonies. Instead of being cooped up inside a gym or indoor stadium, you get the fresh air, warm breezes, and thousands of extra smiling faces to join you at your ceremony.

  1. The Style

If you haven’t already, it’s time to go shopping for your graduation outfit! In fact, you might want two — one for under your gown and another to change into if your family and friends are throwing you an additional party. You’ll want something light, breezy, and colorful. Unlike winter grads who may have to graduate in snow boots and parkas, spring grads have much more style options to work with!

  1. The Jobs

Outside the actual graduation part, you’re probably also focused on landing your first job. While it may be discouraging to know that you’re one of many, that numbers game can actually help you. Major employers – especially in the business world – purposefully wait to hire in the late Spring through early Fall in anticipation of bright, driven graduates (like yourself) coming into the job market.

  1. The Vacation

If you’re still soul searching about that first job or your future path, don’t stress! Because you are graduating in the summer, you may be able to take the next few months off as a “vacation” from school — and all that pressure. Use it to go see the world, volunteer in your community, or take on an internship (believe it or not, they do exist for graduates). You may never know what a little vacation can do or inspire you.

  1. The Parties

Ending the undergraduate stage of your life can be a mixed bag of emotions. Sure, you’re excited to have accomplished something so big and amazing, but leaving the comfort of campus can be downright depressing. This is especially true if you’re saying goodbye to your best friends and classmates. A party is the perfect way to cap off your college career, and there’s no better time to have one then in May when you can take it to the beach, make it a BBQ, or set up a fire pit. Grab your summer themed foods and drinks and your best friends and make it a night to remember forever!

Reasons Why Pajamas Work for College Students

You roll out of bed and check your closet, but why bother when what you’re wearing is already ready to go? Sure, pajamas as an outfit isn’t exactly high-fashion, but for college students, it’s a lifestyle. Don’t feel guilty about rocking flannel shirts or sweatpants to class; there are tons of reasons why pajamas count as acceptable college wear.

I’ve got two words for you: 8 a.m. lecture. Unless you have been through the pain that is waking up and sitting through a lecture on American history at the wee hours of the morning, you won’t understand the joys of pajama wear. Morning classes are never an easy thing for college students especially with all the all-nighters, noisy roommates, and evening study groups to deal with. Why deny the utility of showing up in what you wore to bed?

Pajama Chic is a Way of Life

For most college students, they understand that there’s an unwritten rule about pajama wear that states not past 1 p.m. Anytime that is considered afternoon is basically a no-go for pajamas. No one wants to look like the bum that just woke up when the sun’s been shining for hours. Instead, pajama wearers work best when they pull off this look from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. when maximum comfort is a must.

Clearly, he's wearing pajamas

If you’re gonna wear pajamas, own it!

Those who do brave the afternoon with pajama pants on should do it with style. Cut out the cutesy character pants with your favorite childhood cartoon, and avoid frayed and tattered sleep shirts. Instead, dress up the pajama as best as possible. Pair them with regular items from your wardrobe such as a ballerina flat or a statement necklace.

Build Up Your Cozy Wardrobe

Building up a pajama wardrobe that includes basic colored sweatpants and neutral tops is a must. Avoid cotton t-shirts and exchange them in for silkier blouses. Cut out flannel pants unless you are okay with tighter fitting pajama bottoms. And don’t forget the rest of the look as well. That means combing through matted hair, putting on a base layer of makeup, and practicing basic hygiene; these are key to successfully looking your best while still tired.

Remember: even though you’re pulling off lazy chic, you’ve still got to make an effort!

Goat in Pajamas

Our Right to Be Comfy While Studying

There is also a thought that rocking pajamas as an outfit is the right of every college student. Many realize that these are the last few years before their bound to a suit and tie, so why not experience the joy now? Unless the class is taught by someone you want to impress or includes a special experience such as a meeting with a professional in your field, showing up in pajamas on occasions is never frowned down upon as long as you get a feel for the people that matter the most — your fellow students and your professors.

Two Goats in Pajamas

But the secret to wearing pajamas in college is not the clothes, the time of day, or the comfort — it’s the confidence. What makes pajama wearers come across as just “normal” on college campuses is the way they own it. So if you’re debating between a pair of jeans and your favorite velour lined sweats, don’t panic. Go with what makes you feel comfortable, happy, and ready to face the day…even if that means throwing on a hoodie and sweats, and running to your first class.

Five (Easy) Ways to Fight Stress

This generation seems to have a serious problem with stress;  sometimes you can go entire days listening to conversations centered around how stressed your classmates are.  You may be the first to admit that you’re not the best at dealing with stress, either.  However, it’s beneficial to try out a few tricks to counteract the negative effects it can have on one’s body and mind.  The theory is simple:  if you can win a few key battles against stress, you’ll be one step closer to winning the war.

1. Stop Everything:  If you’ve ever been in a stressful situation, you know that your mind is very tempted to make any small issues snowball into catastrophic problems.  The best way to keep this from happening is to stop whatever you’re doing, step back, and take a breather.  After all, you can’t fight the symptoms of stress if you still feel overwhelmingly stressed.

2. Make A List:  A common cause of stress is feeling overwhelmed or being “spread too thin.”  The best way to counteract this is to make a list.  Prioritize everything you have to accomplish, and check things off as you complete them.  Being able to actively visualize your progress will also give you an even greater sense of accomplishment.

3. Take A Break:  Still feeling stressed?  Time allowing, it would be a good idea for you to completely remove yourself from the situation.  Take just enough time to clear your mind and calm your nerves so you can be ready to get back to work.

4. Keep Your Focus:  When you feel ready to face the situation again, make sure that you keep your end goal in mind.  Distractions won’t help you finish the task, and your inability to finish it will probably end up making you even more stressed.

5. Reward Yourself:  After you’ve overcome a huge challenge, make sure to give yourself a pat on the back.  Whether it’s with ice cream or a movie night, reward yourself–and your efforts will reward themselves.

Stress is a part of life, it’s true-but that doesn’t mean you have to let it knock you down every time it comes your way.  Try to integrate some of these techniques into your daily routine, and wait for the wonderful (and stress-free) results to start rolling in.
